My Skincare Routine 2020 (Korean, Japanese, Taiwanese)

My previous blog post is outdated, my skincare routin looks a bit different and I’m using different products too in 2020. I’m still a big fan of Korean cosmetics but sometimes I order Japanese and Taiwanese products too.

MY SKIN TYPE:
I’m 35, I have combination skin with oily T-zone and large pores. I have hormonal acne but it’s not that bad as it was some years ago. My skincare goals are the following: preventing new pimples, fading PIE and anti-aging.

MY SKINCARE ROUTINE:
I use sunscreen every single day. I prefer lightweight products with antioxidants and soothing ingredients. I love retinol, vitamin C, vitamin B3 etc., but I don’t like to mix them: I rather take my time with each step of the skincare routine, this is how I prevent redness, which is pretty important if you have PIE.

I’ll list all the products I’ve used in 2020 so far.

3.) Vitamin: C or B3
The first half of the year I used vitamin C in the morning because antioxidants and sunscreens togehter can protect the skin better. But since I use the TIAM vitamin C serum, I prefer using that in the evening. Vitamin B3 is a fantastic ingredient, I use this one every day, usually in the morning.

(The TIAM spot cream is supposed to be applied on spots but I use it as a face cream all over my face because… Why not? That means that I use it in a different step but I wanted to mention it here, because this one contains 10% niacinamide too!).

4.) Essence
I’ve been using essences from Missha for years. Usually I pick the latest fermented essence but I like the soothing effect of mugwort too.

5.) Ampoule & Serum
There are no rules here, I simply start with the most watery one and pick the ones I need based on the condition of my skin. Korean ampoules and serums are usually very lightweight, it is easy to combine them and use 2 or 3 at the same time if needed.

6.) Sunscreen
I usually go for SPF50+ PA++++, but if I don’t spend too much time outdoors (basically 99% of the time) I’m fine with less protection too. I love and use all kinds of sunscreens: mattifying, tinted, moisturizing, organic or inorganic, I’m not picky but I try to avoid the oily, heavy ones.

5. B) AHA & BHA
Once a week or once in every 2 weeks I use a 20% or 30% AHA peel.

6.) Retinol (adapalene)
I can’t use tretinoin, I prefer Differin, because adapalene is more gentle, doesn’t dry out the skin either. I use a little bit every day, it’s fantastic if you have acne prone skin. I had to say good bye to that famous “retinol/tretinoin glow” but that’s the only thing I miss, I think Differin is a better choice for me.

(This TIAM moisturizer contains retinyl palmitate so I can apply it around my eyes and on my neck too, it is very gentle! Because of the texture, instead of step 6 I use it in step 9 and 10.)

7.) Essence
After applying the Differin gel, I wait about half an hour (or more) and then I start moisturizing with essences, ampoules, creams etc.
